Robert Sedgley…has traveled widely both in Europe and Africa. his work often features the countries he visits and having made four trips to Sri Lanka, the artist has found inspiration aplenty. 'Holy Sites and Humble Dwellings' his second exhibition here is now on at the Sri Lankan Institute of Architects 120/7, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7. The exhibition will continue till January 24 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Sedgley is drawn to architectural scenes. Temples, humble buildings, shops, stalls often with figures in them, adding a narrative touch to the painting are his forte. His fascination lies in seeing hard, solid forms like buildings being transformed to insubstantial views through the use of light and colour. during his stay here he has also done many paintings of the Dalada Maligawa [Temple of the Tooth], some of which are currently being exhibited. Another series, titled 'Hill Country' is sure to captivate the viewer, presenting as it does, enchanting vistas of the tea estates, garnered during a train journey from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya.
