
These somewhat quirky figure paintings are based mostly on people or situations I have seen, sketched from life or memory, and occasionally from newspaper photographs, then developed through drawings and oil studies into a final image. I don't think of them as caricatures as, although based on real people, they are not intended to refer to specific individuals. Perhaps grotesques or types, in the tradition of Breugle and Bosch, Dix and Gross (although I would in no way claim them to be comparable to those four giants) would be a closer way to regard them.
